As part of the program, on the 22nd of July we offer an organised trip around Madeira to show rare instruments through demonstrations and recitals in different towns. And on the way, we have the privilege of visiting a special Exhibition, organised for us, at a fabulous location:

A Master of many talents, João (John) Henriques has promoted immensely the heritage of Madeira, not only by making regional string instruments and his own inventions, hundreds which are spread in the world, but also through his willingness to show the know-how - understanding the importance of sharing his knowledge, contrary to many other makers, whose art eventually disappears. Master Henriques created a community Association that bears his name (Associação Solidária de Cordofones), and has offered his instruments to those in need, who don't have the monetary means to pay for one, to learn how to play. This good-hearted Master has also a Workshop open to all those interested in learning the art of instrument making.
Below you find a link to the Institute IVBAM that has played an extraordinary role in the promotion and defence of the various unique products of Madeira, which is currently home to Master Henriques' workshop.
