Alojamento | Lodging

Museu José Malhoa is situated inside the Park Dom Carlos (background image), in the centre of Caldas da Rainha, which is about one hour north of Lisboa, the capital of Portugal, in Europe. There are various types of lodging available, from a 4 stars hotel close to the Museum to more economical accomodation nearby, and if travelling with a car the options triplicate, with the rural or seaside touristic choices. The prices are fair, even for July, so we recommend to make your reservation directly through your favourite booking sites (some links are presented below) or through the Municipality list of contacts, for the dates of your stay. Please remember that we have important visits on the 2nd of July in Lisboa, going to Caldas da Rainha by bus (if there are enough participants enrolled for this trip) on Monday, and registration starts on the 3rd, with workshops planed for this Tuesday as well.

Location & Maps

The privileged location of Caldas da Rainha, on the west coast, close to the Atlantic ocean, allows for a mild climate even in the warm season. For the location of the Museum and other sites of interest which participants might be able to visit (Foz do Arelho, Óbidos, Peniche, Lourinhã), please see maps below:

Transportation

LISBOA - international airport closer to Caldas da Rainha

The airport is located within Lisbon, which transportation system is ranked as one of the most efficient and complete of the world, especially considering the hilly and intricate roads that characterize this thousands old special city. We suggest, for those staying in Lisboa before or after the congress, to use the taxi services or Uber when with luggage, and the Metro for quicker trips whenever possible. Here are some useful links:

BUS

The best choice is the bus, with a fast ride that has only two stops and takes about one hour and a half, with buses at least every hour, from 07:00h (7am) till 00:30h (after midnight). The company that offers a regular line is "Rodoviária do Oeste": link (in Portuguese)

Location of the bus station in Lisboa: Campo Grande - the buses are in the open area just outside the metro station with the same name (see the map below). This bus-station is quite close to the airport, but the metro line is not direct (first red line to the station "Alameda", then green line to station "Campo Grande") ; you can use also the normal bus (company called "Carris") from the airport, but since carrying your luggage, it might be better to use a taxi or Uber, for such a short drive prices are quite low.

Bus line: 788

Price: 7,95€ (you can pay at the station counter or inside the bus)

"Dias úteis" are from Monday to Friday, from the 2nd of July to the 6th of July. The 7th and 8th are the weekend days, called "fim-de-semana", that is "sábado" and "domingo".

2nd July: after the visits to the museums in Lisboa, we are hiring a bus to help bring the group directly to Caldas da Rainha, providing a service that is more comfortable, faster and convenient than to cross all Lisboa and waiting for the bus scheduling, etc. This bus service has the cost of 17€ per person, providing there is a minimum number of reservations that justify the hiring of the bus. Please inform the organization as soon as possible, for us to know which facilities to book in advance. Thank you!

Location of the bus station in Caldas da Rainha: it is called "Terminal Rodoviário de Caldas da Rainha" - it is quite close to the Town Hall (a bit north-west), and about 600 meters from the Parque D. Carlos, direction south, and to the lodging placed nearby, so to say, 10 minutes walking distance.

Travel from Caldas da Rainha to Lisboa: since participants all have different times for departure, it is not possible to hire a private bus to satisfy all the needs. We therefore suggest to check the bus of your convenience, and to help you, we provide here the timetable of the bus line from Caldas da Rainha for the 8th of July (the same for the 7th of July): pdf-link
